While You Wait: Quick Checks

A few things take two minutes and sometimes solve the problem before we even arrive — or at least tell us what to bring:

• Check the breaker. Well pumps are usually on a dedicated circuit. A tripped breaker or a GFCI outlet that's tripped (if your control setup runs through one) is the single most common "no water" cause and the easiest to fix.
• Look at the pressure gauge near the pressure tank, if you have one. Zero pressure with the pump not running suggests an electrical or pump problem; pressure present but faucets not delivering suggests a downstream plumbing issue instead.
• Listen for the pump. A humming sound with no water movement can indicate a seized motor or a bad capacitor/control box, useful information for us before we arrive.
• Check for recent power outages or storms. Power surges are a common cause of control box or pressure switch failure.

What Counts as a True Emergency

Not every well problem needs a same-day visit, but these do:

• Complete loss of water with no obvious breaker/GFCI fix
• Households with medical needs, infants, or elderly residents affected by the outage
• Livestock or agricultural operations depending on the well
• Visible flooding, well pit issues, or electrical hazards at the wellhead
